About the Cnam

The Cnam is where the worlds of academics and professional activity come together.
It is the foremost higher education institution dedicated to lifelong learning in France.

 

Our missions & our structure

The Cnam is a public institution headed by a President, Professor Bénédicte Fauvarque-Cosson, nominated by the President of France.

The Cnam has three main missions:

  • to provide lifelong learning opportunities to all
  • to develop excellence in technological research and innovation
  • to disseminate scientific and technical knowledge

The Cnam proposes study courses which are developed in close collaboration with companies and professional organisations in order to respond to their needs and to those of their employees. Founded in 1794 in the heart of Paris, the Cnam has grown considerably both nationally and internationally and now has 20 French regional and overseas centres. It also has an extensive number of partner institutions around the world.

The Cnam's staff in Paris, Ile de France and other regions includes permanent teaching and non-teaching members. It also welcomes visiting scholars including those from the business world. There are currently:

  • 557 full-time professors
  • 1,964 part-time professors
  • 1,105 administrative staff
